26 Jul 2025UNCLAIMED CASH PRIZES FROM 16/07/25

Thanks to Middleton Cons for staging this years main presentation night on Wednesday 16th July.

The evening was enjoyed by everyone who attended.

However, a record total amount in cash prizes to present, was unfortunately marred by a record number of prize winners who didn't attend.

Most disappointing was out of a total cash fund of £4,800 for LBSO league winners and runners up, nearly half of it, £2,240 was not collected on the night.
Half of the twelve teams concerned did not attend and this included two winning teams from the same club, who neither collected their £960 in cash nor the two annual trophies.

In terms of LBSO competitions, once again losing semi-finalists were the worst offenders, prompting a possible re-consideration of prize allocations for next season!

A few cash prizes have since been collected, but there are still a number to collect.

A full list of prize winners for this season is now uploaded on the website - go to the tab above "About Us / Documents / Prize Winners".

If you, you and your partner or your team did not attend the presentation and your name appears on that list, your cash prize is still available for collection.

Members of the Committee will not however make any efforts to contact you.
The 'ball is in your court' to make the first move and arrange a suitable time and place to collect your cash prize.

In line with the current LBSO rules, any prize monies still not collected at the AGM, will be forfeited and put back into the LBSO account to be shown on the balance sheet for 2025/26.

25 Jul 2025**Leeds City Championship Final – Womersley Clinches Leeds Title**

The curtain came down on this season’s snooker calendar with a battling performance from Daniel Womersley, who secured the Leeds City Championship Singles title with a 4–0 victory over Richard Binns in the final.

Despite the match being billed as a high-stakes encounter, Womersley’s calm and clinical approach ensured the contest never truly sparked into life, as he maintained control from the outset.

Frame 1:
A cautious start saw both players probing for openings. Binns found himself in early trouble, conceding 20 points after multiple failed snooker escapes. A composed 32 break brought him back into contention, but a loose safety on the pink allowed Womersley to edge the frame (62–53)

Frame 2:
Womersley opened with a 28 break before a positional error gave Binns a chance. A 41 break followed, but another lapse in safety play allowed Womersley to clear the colours and double his lead (70–41)

Frame 3:
Needing a response before the interval, Binns again got in first but could only manage 23. A golden opportunity followed, but a series of positional errors—particularly on the yellow and brown—proved costly. Womersley capitalised once more to take the frame (68–37)

Frame 4:
The most competitive frame of the night saw both players exchange mini-breaks. However, Binns’ inconsistency in the balls gave Womersley the final opening he needed. With trademark composure, he cleared the colours to seal a 4–0 victory and lift the prestigious title.

A huge thank you to NSC for hosting the final and to Julian Bell for his professional officiating on the night.

Congratulations once again to Daniel Womersley, your 2025 Leeds City Champion!

03 Jul 2025**Lines/Boyes cruise to pairs title**

Peter Lines and Daniel Boyes defeated Stephen Broadhead and Johnathan Bagley 3-0 in tonight's Leeds pairs final.
After a cagey start, Lines compiled a beautiful 84 clearance to take the first frame (120-5).
Not to be outdone Boyes then contributed a break of 60 to put his side 2-0 up (67-10).
Stephen Broadhead was in first in the third frame with a run of 20, but Lines /Boyes then took control and a break of 30 from Boyes effectively sealed the frame and match (79-25).
Thanks to referee Graham Mason and our hosts and sponsors the NSC.

02 Jul 2025**Boyes Invitation Champion**

Gildersome’s Daniel Boyes claimed the Len Lee Invitation Trophy last night with a very comfortable 4-1 win against Richard Binns of Belle Isle.

Frame 1: Binns started the match in fine style, quickly into the frame with a quickfire 35 break, but Boyes came back strong too with a couple of mini contributions. A loose shot from Binns at the business end of the frame then allowed Boyes to compile a frame winning 33 break to take the first frame (74 – 39) 1 – 0

Frame 2: Again, Binns was the stronger in the early stages of the frame, mixed with further help from Boyes with unexpected missed pots. The frame now firmly in the balance, Binns continued to persist, helped with a further 26 break the match was now level (16 – 54) 1 – 1

Frame 3: This was the frame when the tides turned and Boyes playing in his first Len Lee Invitation final began to find some form. Mixed with some excellent long points and precise positional play, breaks of 24 and then 42 ended this frame to lead the match (66 - 16) 2 - 1

Frame 4 & 5: Both these frames followed in similar patterns, the impressive Boyes now stepping up another gear and with breaks of 35, 36 and then a 46 in the final frame meant this match was over.
(75 – 1) (75 – 15) 4 – 1

Well done to Daniel Boyes!

Thanks to NSC for hosting the final and thanks to the ever-impressive match referee on the night Mark Ball!

25 Jun 2025**Belle Isle WMC are Stan Brooke Team champions**

Belle Isle WMC added the Stan Brooke Team title to their Windsor trophy triumph with a hard fought 292-274 victory over the Northern Snooker Centre in tonight's final.
In the first frame Belle Isle's David Waring (44) just edged Chris Gaunt (19) 73-68 in a typically nervy affair.
The second frame saw NSC's Nathan Daniels (15) start off confidently and by the middle of the frame he had clawed back the 25 handicap he was conceding to Luke Waring (40). From there he slowly pulled away and by the end of the frame he had secured a 65-111 win putting his team 41 ahead on aggregate.
Next up it was Belle Isle's Shane Waring (36) against Aaron Drummond (14). Try as he might Aaron couldn't get any fluency going and Shane managed to stay ahead the whole frame, finally running out a 94-66 winner.
So this left the NSC with a slender 13 point advantage going into the final frame.
In this situation the pressure is firmly on the player who's in front whereas the player who's behind can play with a little more freedom as they feel they have nothing to lose.
That turned out to be the case as Belle Isle's David Summerfield (-3) started brightly against Craig Myers (12).
Playing good solid match snooker David slowly ate into the 15 start he was conceding and started to whittle down the aggregate deficit.
When it got to the blue there was 30 points in it to the Belle Isle player, so 17 in front on aggregate.
Craig potted blue and a couple of shots later went for a long pink which rattled in the jaws of the green pocket and rolled agonisingly across the table to finish over the yellow pocket. David stepped up to pot the pink and seal the match with a 60 points to 29 frame win.
Thanks as always to the NSC and to referee Paul Marlow.
