24 May 2017##Hirst/Fell win Stan Brooke Pairs Final##

Steven Hirst and Scott Fell of Belle Isle WMC last night defeated New Middleton,s Damian Gale and Danny Dean by 198-159 in the final of the Stan Brooke Pairs.
The first two frames were close, just one point separating the duo's going into the third and final game. Breaks of 33 and 32 from Gale keeping the lower handicapped pair in the contest.
However in the third game the 25 start that Hirst/ Fell were receiving proved decisive and they always looked likely winners as Gale/Dean struggled to pull back the deficit.
Thanks to Alex Crum for refereeing and to the NSC for hosting.
The match was preceded by a minutes silence in honour of the Manchester bomb victims.

22 May 2017##Darren Binns and Steve Reynolds win Len Lee Pairs ##

In a typical safety oriented final that lasted just short of two and a half hours, Darren Bins and Steve Reynolds defeated club colleagues Richard and Mark Aspin 3-0 to take the Len Lee Pairs title.
A comfortable 59-21 victory in the first frame gave them a 1-0 lead and that became 2-0 after Reynolds potted the Pink in the second (47-39). The "Aspins" took the lead early in the third frame and a comeback looked to be on the cards until a couple of nicely laid snookers by Binns turned the tide and when Reynolds potted the brown they were 24 points in front with only 18 remaining. A couple of shots later and it was all over, the final frame score being 74-49.
Thanks to Mark King for officiating and to the NSC for hosting the final.

20 May 2017**FATHER & SON DUO THE ASPINS MAKE IT AN ALL 'MIGGY' CONS FINAL IN THE LL PAIRS**

Father & Son pair Richard & Mark Aspin (Middleton Cons) defeated Liam Nicholson & John Mullen (Beeston Sports & Social), in a 5 frame 4 and 1/2 hours war of attrition on Thursday. The format, the occasion, the table, and an increasing negativity by all 4 players on the night, all combined and led to a dour and disappointing night for all involved, including the players & their spectators!
The Aspins pinched the first frame on a re-spotted black (65-58).
It looked like an 'early bath' when the Middleton pair receiving 13 a frame, also took a 52 point lead in the second frame, only for Nicholson & Mullen to score 76 unanswered points and take it 78-54 and level the match at 1-1.
The next 2 largely uneventful frames lasting 45 mins each were shared to send the match into a decider.
This 1 hour grueller was as tense as you would expect, but was littered with errors where nearly 1/2 of the total points scored from the 'foul & miss' rule, were a decisive factor in the outcome of the match! First the Beeston pair benefited to take a 27 point lead, but then the 'tables turned' and it was the turn of the Aspins to profit from 4 seperate 'foul & misses', and by claiming 31 points in total from them managed to close out the frame and match 73-60, when the Beeston pair unfortunately potted the pink when they didnt want to!
Thanks to Alex Crum for refereeing a very difficult match to officiate, and of course to the Northern SC once again for use of the centre table.
