Belle Isle won the Windsor Trophy in dramatic fashion last night at South Leeds Conservative Club, in what was the final competition of a long season.
Playing against Farsley Cons it looked like it was going to be a close encounter on paper when the teams were announced.
The first two matches saw Paul Sayner (Farsley) v Malcolm Timblin (Belle Isle) and Mick Davies (Farsley) v Tony Fell (Belle Isle).
The Farsley players got off to a great start winning their first two frames to lead 2-0. Davies was well ahead in his second frame and looked like extending the lead to 3-0 only until a series of missed attempt snookers allowed Fell back into the match and when Fell potted match ball pink the deficit was reduced.
On the other table Timblin was getting the better of Sayner and eased his second frame (83-39) to level the match 2-2.
Next two matches saw Phil Morton (Farsley) pit his wits against Dean Paterson (Belle Isle) and Danny Crompton (Farsley) versus Steven Hirst (Belle Isle)
From leading 2 – 0 Farsley found themselves 2 - 4 down with the Belle Isle players stringing together some mini breaks in there first two frames.
Going into the second frames and all 4 players now were finding a bit of form, back and forth with mini contributions. It looked like Belle Isle were going to see the match out when Hirst pulled away from Crompton, but Crompton produced a special clearance from brown to black to keep the match alive 3 – 4 (55-48)
So other to the other table and it was a tight second frame with no player getting away. Onto the colours Morton needing to win to force a deciding frame was leading by 10 with the last 3 remaining colours. A foul followed and when Paterson potted the blue it was all square. Paterson made an attempt on the pink, missed by a long way but then went around the angles dropping agonisingly into the pocket, not only that the white finished directly behind the black to leave a straight black down the table to win the match, which Paterson executed to claim the victory.
The match was great in great spirit in front of a large crowd from both clubs and members of South Leeds Conservatives.
Thanks to Michael Davenport and Andy Kitson for officiating and to South Leeds Conservatives for hosting the final.
Roy Corbett (Harehills WMC) overcame Vinny Parkin (Middleton Cons) to win the Sykes Cup 3-0 last night at NSC.
Corbett receiving 17 start per frame was the more controlled player on the night. The first frame started very slow and sluggish, only after a series of snooker allowed the frame to go in the favour of the Harehills player (82 – 30) 1 – 0
The second frame followed the same pattern as the first, and it was only really at the back end of the frame that Corbett pulled away to take a 2 – 0 lead (89 – 47)
Third frame and Corbett started brightly opening a 40+ lead at one stage. But back came Parkin who had been out of sorts up until this point and when down to the colours it was even game. Chances went astray for both players and when Parkin left Corbett a chance for a double on the pink, he seized that chance and expressed his delight when it dropped into the middle pocket. 3 – 0 (69 – 58)
Thanks to Andy Kitson for officiating and to NSC for use of the match table.
This week will see the remaining competitions come to a conclusion as well as ending the 22/23 season.

Bramley Band A won the 3 Man KO 4-0 with ease over Garforth WMC A last night at Belle Isle WMC.
Ethan Robertson (40) v Andy Davis (34) & Rob Clynes (21) v Dave Goodhall (21) starting the proceedings off. It was Bramley Band’s No2 stealing the initial headlines, taking the first frame comfortably with some excellent potting and breaks of 23 & 30 to put Bramley 1 - 0 up (97 – 43)
On the other table it was a more scrappy affair, but when young Robertson cleared the last 3 colours in style to win on the black it was advantage Bramley Band 2 – 0 (83 – 77)
Now the No1’s players of Wayne Dockerty (18) from Bramley taking on Dave Elmy (4) from Garforth it was simply a must win for the Garforth player. With chances going begging for both players, it was eventually Dockerty taking the frame to put Bramley 3 – 0 ahead (77 – 43)
So back to the baize were the No3’s of Robertson against Davis, and again it was the young potter from Bramley taking the advantage and putting the match to bed winning comfortably to seal the match and title 4 – 0 (110 – 65)
Thanks to Ken Symons and Andy Kitson for officiating and for Belle Isle for hosting the final.
