15 May 2019**Belle Isle take the Stan Brooke Team Title**

This local derby never reached the scale or standards to draw any excitement from either players, spectators or officials...

Once again the notorious match table at NSC played too difficult for all 8 players to adjust to, which led to long, low scoring matches.

1st Frame:
It was Scott (21) from Belle Isle v Steve (10) from New Middleton. Neither player really scoring when having chances. Scott playing some very good safety throughout, but a flurry of succession pots from both players meant a close finish with Steve taking the final black to edge the frame 62 - 68.

2nd Frame:
Paul (20) playing from Belle Isle faced up against Steve (10) from New Middleton. It was Paul who adapted the quickest with some good pots throughout the frame, which he took comfortably taking the last 3 colours with style to dominate this frame 91 - 38.

3rd Frame:
Next it was Dean (8) playing Damian Gale (0) from New Middleton. Again neither players scoring or adapting to the centre table. Few pots went in here and there, but it was only a succession of cleverly laid snookers meant the scoreboard ticked over by repeated foul and misses. Edgy right up until the end and both players sharing the colours Dean won the frame 61 - 55.

So the final frame Belle Isle taking a 53 point advantage when Joe (-2) of Belle Isle met Phil (-3) of New Middleton.
Story of the night really with both players having lots of chances to score but controlling the white ball seemed more difficult as the night continued. Another low scoring affair, with Phil missing a few chances to reduce the 53 point advantage. But it was Joe who laid the snooker which effectively ended the contest, a succession of 7 foul and misses meant the frame/match was over.

Well done to Belle Isle, commiserations to New Middleton, played in good spirit.

Thanks to NSC for providing once again an excellent playing facility.

Thanks also to Michael Davenport for refereeing and concentrating for so long on the night!

13 May 2019**GILLEN IS CHAMPION IN THE BATTLE OF THE LEWIS's**

Lewis Gillen is the Leeds City Snooker Champion for this year, after defeating Lewis Harper 4 – 1 last Friday night at the Northern Snooker Centre, in the battle of the Lewis’s. In a stop and start final in which neither player really got going properly, it was Lewis G who showed just a bit more composure and experience to take the title, even though he is only 21.
15 years old Lewis H can be proud of himself though, this being his third Leeds City final, after having won the U.16 title and just losing out on the U 18 championship already this year.
Their combined age of 36, must be an all time record for the Leeds final, and either would have been debut winners of the Leeds tiltle this year.
Master Harper started the better in fact, taking the first frame which could have gone either way.
He also looked like extending his lead when his opponent missed an easy green when clearing up. But after potting the green Lewis H first fowled and then left the brown, to allow Lewis G to get his first frame on the board with the brown, blue and pink in the same visit.
This seemed to affect the younger player and he never really posed the eventual champion any further problems, with Lewis G winning the next three frames very comfortably, with a string of visits in the 20’s, 30’s and his highest break of 43, with hardly any reply from his younger opponent.

Frames scores (Lewis Gillen first) – 1. 38-60; 2. 57-47; 3. 80(33)-7; 4. 64(32)-26; 5. 62(31,43)-10.

Thanks to the Northern Snooker Centre as always, for providing excellent and unparalleled playing conditions, but also for putting on food during the interval, which was gratefully received by a decent crowd.

Also appreciation to Michael Davenport, who refereed the final to his usual high standards.
