09 Mar 2019##Stars of the future in action at the NSC##

This Monday (11th March) sees the finals of the Leeds U16 and U18 competitions.

First up at 6:30, 15 years old Lewis Harper takes on 13 years old Liam Pullen in a best of 3 match in the U16 final. A previous winner of this title, Lewis is a regular in the Excelsior B team in the A division and his league performances have seen his handicap reduced to -9 this term. He made his maiden century break just before his 15th birthday and will feel at home on the tight NSC match table. He is up against a rapidly improving Liam Pullen who has also been knocking in century breaks recently. Both these players have also reached the semi-finals of this years Leeds singles competition and are clearly stars of the future.

Immediately following the U16 final, Lewis will be in action again, this time facing 16 years old Joe Fenton who will be looking to retain the U18 title he won last year. Joe is another league regular, playing for the NSC A team. He has seen his handicap reduced to -10 this season. The U18 final is best of 5.
Referee for both finals is Michael Davenport.

Why not come down and watch these promising youngsters in what should be 2 cracking finals.

24 Feb 2019##Its Lewis Harper v Scott Raper in Leeds semi.##

There were 25 entries for the second qualifying day of this year's Leeds Singles Championship.
In a stacked top half of the draw the tie of the round saw Scott Raper (57 break) comfortably see off last year's winner Jon Bagley 3-0. Elsewhere there were victories for Dan Byrne over Rhys O'Gara (3-0), Lewis Walsh over Ant Sumner (3-0), Chris Hart over Dave French (3-1), Malcolm Bilclough over Dave Boyes (3-0), Tony Massey over Damien Gale (3-1), Luke Campey over Tony Woodall (3-2) and Baz Frankland over Adam Dennison (3-0).
The lower half of the draw saw Michael Gaughan defeat Karl Boylan 3-0.
In the last 16, Dan Byrne beat Lewis Walsh 3-2 on the final black, Scott Raper(58,76) beat Chris Hart 3-0, Tony Massey beat Malcolm Bilclough 3-2 on the final black and Baz Frankland beat Luke Campey 3-0. Campey sportingly agreeing to halt the match for a short while until Frankland recovered from a migraine attack.
In the lower half, Gaughan beat Jordan Wilkinson 3-0, Lewis Harper(50) beat Chris Ibbitson 3-0, Danny Dean (64) beat Lee Brookes 3-2 and Paul Gannon beat Dan Crompton 3-0.
In the last 8 there were wins for Raper over Byrne (3-1), Frankland (74,60) over Massey (68) 3-2, Harper over Gaughan (3-1), and Dean (54) over Gannon 3-1.
The qualifying round saw the match of the day between Horsforth team mates Scott Raper and Baz Frankland.
Frankland took the first frame with a magnificent 94 clearance.
It looked like going 2-0 before a 51 clearance from Raper levelled the match at 1-1. Raper then won a scrappy third frame before a 39 break from Frankland made it 2-2.
In the decider a 45 break from Frankland broke down when he agonisingly failed to get position on the penultimate red. Up stepped Raper to knock in a long red and he proceeded to make a 37 clearance to win yet another match which went to the final black.
In the lower half, 15 years old Lewis Harper showed his undoubted potential as he knocked in breaks of 73,67 and 45 to defeat a shellshocked Danny Dean 3-0, Dean himself making a break of 49 along the way.
So the 2 semis see Liam Pullen take on Lewis Gillen and Scott Raper takes on Lewis Harper. Dates to be confirmed.
