During the meeting, Paul Grimes will comment of the new season, and Paul Marlow and Mark Ball will do likewise from the competitions angle.

One final call that the main presentation of this season's prizes takes place at Crossgates WMC tonight.
The concert room will be open from 7pm.

Young cueist James Pears took the LBSO sponsored six reds handicap title and the £100 first prize from a diverse field of 35 entrants today.
With a field that contained 4 out of 6 of the leagues lowest handicapped players, 8 promising juniors, and a host of battle hardened league regulars, this was always going to be a tough competition to call.
Highlight of the first round was a "maximum" 75 break for Dan Womersley (recently 're-handicapped down to -50 after his win in the ADT Flexibles competition) in a narrow 3-2 win over Steve Parlour. Elsewhere there were wins for Liam Pullen (down to +10 from +20), Jason Hudson,Dave Millward,Steven Hirst,Andy Dilucia,Tom Oates,Lewis Gillen,James Pears,Stan Moody (down to +20 from +25),Dean Pattison,Shannon Metcalf,Dylan Myers,Mick Calvert,Dave French and Mark Ball.
The round of 16 saw Liam Pullen scrape home 3-2 against Jason Hudson,Steven Hirst beat Dave Millward,Tom Oates overcame Andy Dilucia, and James Pears defeated Lewis Gillen.
In the bottom half Dean Pattison beat youngster Stan Moody,Dan Womersley beat Shannon Metcalf,Dylan Myers lost narrowly 3-2 to Mick Calvert, and Mark Ball overcame Dave French.
In the quarter finals there were comfortable 3-0 wins for Liam Pullen over Steve Hirst ,Mick Calvert over Mark Ball and James Pears over Tom Oates.
The other tie went the distance, 35 start proving just enough for Dean Pattison to edge out Dan Womersley.
The first semi-final saw 2 juniors slugging it out for a place in the final. James Pears taking the first 2 frames before being pegged back,finally winning a nervy decider to go through. The other semi also went the distance, Dean Pattison eventually scraping through against Mick Calvert.
In the final, James(recieving 8 points start) won the first on the black before Dean levelled with the aid of a 24 break. The third went to James after a brilliant pink into the middle pocket from tight on the top cushion. Both players missed chances early in the fourth before a nicely taken 27 break from James effectively gave him frame and match 3-1

The Plate competition along with a £40 consolation prize went to Rowland Roads Joe Moore, who defeated Oliver Hudson,Lewis Harper,Stewart Quinn and lastly Stewart Dobson in the final.

This Sunday's Six Reds handicap at the NSC goes ahead as planned, 10am start, no pre -registration necessary.

There will be a main competition (best of 5) and best of 3 plate competition for first round losers.

Dependant on the number of entries some of the matches in the main competition may be reduced to best of 3 to ensure the competition finishes by 3-3:30.

Gildersome's Michael Gaughan defeated Lee Hart of Crossgates Rec 3-2 to win tonight's Sykes Cup final, to bring the curtain down on this season's finals series.

Conceding 35 points per frame it was Gaughans league experience which was the telling factor in a close fought match.
The flamboyant Hart looked to have secured the first frame when 25 in front with only 22 remaining, but a foul on the brown proved costly as Gaughan coolly cleared the last 4 colours to win 68-66.
It looked to be heading for 1-1 when Hart led the next by 17 points with only pink and black remaining, but a nicely laid snooker gave Gaughan the penalty points he required and soon after he potted pink and then black to make it 2-0 (71-69).

Back came Hart and some fine single ball potting saw him win the next two frames comfortably (23-73, 44-75) to take the match into a decider.

After both players had missed several early chances, Gaughan gradually started to claw back the handicap and by the time they reached the colours it was all square. Gaughan sunk the yellow to take the lead and then in the next visit potted green, brown and a great blue to go 14 points up with 13 left.
A couple of shots later and an easy pink gave him frame and match.

Mon 9th July sees the last match of this season's competitions at the NSC with Michael Gaughan (-3) taking on Lee Hart (+32) , 7:30 start, dress code applies.

A strong field of 37 hopefuls turned up to compete for the 2nd ADT Flexibles Ltd handicap kindly sponsored by our chairman Andy Taffinder.

Highlight of the preliminary round was a repeat of this years Leeds singles match between Dan Womersley and Tom Doherty. This time it was Dan who prevailed, gaining revenge for his Leeds singles defeat. Elsewhere there were wins for juniors Stanley Moody, Liam Pullen and Daniel Boyes, and also a 2-0 win for Ian Rayner over Steve Quigley.

In the first round proper, Stan Moody won a tight match over Ian Rayner, whilst Dan Womersley showed signs of what was to come with breaks of 69 and 49 in beating Daniel Boyes. Liam Pullen impressed onlookers with a comfortable win over Steve Gale, Mark Pears defeated Jason Hudson, Tony Griffin beat Ian O,Brien, Dan Booth overcame Nigel Turner, Martin McGuigan knocked out teenager Shannon Metcalf and Phil Buckle won a marathon tie against Chris Hudson.
In the lower half of the draw, Lewis Gillen caught the eye with a break of 87 in a quickfire win over Dave French, Carl Harkin defeated Karl Briggs, Dave Boyes beat Steve Broadhead, and Steve Parlour battled past Peter Walker. Another promising youngster James Pears defeated Jordan Wilkinson, Gavin Godfree beat Andy Dilucia,Kev Dilucia won through against Craig Pullen, and Tom Oates defeated Oliver Hudson.

The round of 16 saw Dan Womersley continue his impressive form against Stan Moody, a break of 73 helping him to the win. Rapidly improving Liam Pullen defeated Mark Pears, Dan Booth overcame Tony Griffin and Martin McGuigan saw off Phil Buckle in another lengthy battle.
The lower half saw wins for Carl Harkin over Dave Boyes, Steve Parlour over Lewis Gillen,James Pears over Gavin Godfree and Tom Oates over Kev Dilucia, the latter unluckily going in off the black in the decider.

The tie of the quarter finals saw Dan Womersley up against fancied Liam Pullen. Conceding 50 points per frame looked a tall order but breaks of 50 and 87 from Dan saw him comfortably through to the semis. In the other matches Dan Booth beat Martin McGuigan, Carl Harkin eased past Steve Parlour, and in the closest match of the round, Tom Oates won the second frame on the black and the decider on the pink to knockout plucky James Pears.

Dan Womersleys fine form continued as breaks of 50 and 87 helped him see off Dan Booth and cruise into the final where he faced Carl Harkin who defeated Tom Oates in the other semi.

The final saw Dan attempt to give his opponent 70 points per frame. A 48 break helped him take the first frame. The second looked to be going the way of Carl before a 26 break to pink forced a black ball game, each player playing several excellent safety shots before Dan finally potted the black for a 2-0 win and a well earned £100 first prize. Dan also shared the high break prize with Lewis Gillen, both players having runs of 87.

In the "Plate" competition for first round losers it was Barnbow Social's Shannon Metcalf who impressed with victories over Peter Walker, Steve Gale, Jason Hudson and Michael Calvert to take the £40 consolation prize. Calvert enjoying wins over Karl Briggs, Tom Doherty, Paul Turner and Andy Dilucia on his way to the final.

Father and son duo Kyle and Josh Brady (NSC) defeated Kevin Wilton and Czaba Molnar (Harehills Libs) 3-1 to win the Len Lee Pairs title.

Receiving 12 start per frame, the NSC pair settled first and it was youngster Josh who struck the first blow. One of a crop of rapidly improving players from the NSC junior academy, a nicely taken 23 break early in the frame put his side in command of the first frame which they ended up winning comfortably 70-28. At this point an early finish looked on the cards but aided by a couple of flukes the Harehills Libs duo fought back to level the match at 1-1 with a 68-33 frame win.
As is often the case with doubles the match gradually turned into a tactical battle with neither side wanting to take any chances. An early 16 break by Josh in the next put his side in the driving seat and despite a scare late in the frame they emerged winners 74-44 to go back into the lead at 2-1.
The next frame again turned into a nervy affair for both sides, but when the NSC pair managed to grind out a 39 point lead with only one red left the match looked all over. Back came Wilton and Molnar and a couple of nicely laid snookers and a free ball got them back into the game, 26 behind with 27 left on. A couple of fouls later and the lead was reduced to just 18 points, before up stepped Josh to pot a good yellow and green to go 23 in front with 22 on. The Harehills duo couldn't get the snooker they required and a couple of shots later the Bradys took the frame 77-41 and the match 3-1.

Kevin Wilton/Czaba Molnar (22) of Harehills Libs and father and son duo Kyle and Josh Brady (34) of NSC.

Sun 1st July sees the second annual "ADT Flexibles Ltd" handicap kindly sponsored by our chairman Andy Taffinder. Entry is £5, payable on the day. No pre-registration necessary. 10am start.
