09 Jun 2017**FINAL MATCH - FINAL FRAME - FINAL BLACK!**

It had to happen! In the perfect surroundings for matchplay snooker at Horsforth Cons on well prepared tables, Gildersome Cons won the final event of the season The WINDSOR TROPHY, by beating Harehills Labour 5-4, on the final black in the deciding frame!
In an even contest all night, with the peculiar trait that both teams won all their 4 frames on only one of the tables, a decider was always on the cards.
The final frame went this way and then that, with Andy Conboy (Harehills Lab) looking like pinching it on the colours, until a missed blue handed Michael Gaughan (Gildersome Cons) a lifeline. Even then it looked like a Harehills victory, but after Andy missed the pink for frame and match, Michael stepped in to pot pink and black and win the trophy to loud cheers from his team mates, and on the same table which Gildersome had won their first four frames!
Thanks to Horsforth Cons for staging the final and to Alex Crum and Bob Patterson who were referees on the night!

09 Jun 2017##Sykes Cup final, Daz Hughes v Steven Hirst ##

On paper, with the players on similar handicaps (just 3 difference), this should have proved to be a close match.
As expected, frame 1 started with neither player taking any chances in the opening exchanges, both players concentrating on trying to acclimatise to the NSC match table.
Steven eventually managed to string a few balls together and gradually moved a few points ahead before ultimately taking the frame 62-30.
Frame 2 started in the same vein and ultimately finished the same with Steven stringing 3 small breaks together at the end of the frame. The score finished 70-34 putting Steven just one frame away from victory.
Frame 3 and the pressure was now on Daz to make a difference in the match and avoid a 3-0 defeat, however this wasn't to be and a very scrappy game finished 60-35 to Steven who took the match 3-0.
Well done to Steven, commiserations to Daz.
The match was well supported by both clubs involved and refereed to the usual high standard by Mark King.
Once again thanks to the NSC for hosting the final.

06 Jun 2017##Darren Hughes edges into Sykes Cup final##

Daz Hughes (+13) defeated Karl Briggs (+23), 3-1 in a dour, safety oriented semi-final. With neither player willing to take any chances, safety was the order of the day, the 4 frames taking well over 3 hours to complete. Hughes will face Steve Hirst in Tuesday's final.
Frame scores (Hughes first) 49-33,54-55,56-26,68-36.
Thanks to Alex Crum for officiating and to the NSC for hosting the match.

05 Jun 2017**Walton secures Len Lee Invitation Title**

After defeating Main Lines Lee Atkinson 4-3 in a tense final.

It was Lee that started the brightest securing the first two frames helped with a 31 break along the way. The next two frame went in Ryan's favour, no big breaks but contributing regular visits at the table, taking the 4th frame on the black to level at 2-2.

Lee took the 5th frame with visits of 23, 15, 15 and a further 15 to open up a one frame advantage.

The next frame was the scrappiest, but most exciting for more reasons than one. The frame was poised going into the final colours, Lee taking a slight advantage and was leading by 13 with pink and black remaining, having missed opportunities on the blue to win the match outright. Ryan then played an outrageous fluke to leave white behind black, resulting in Lee missing the pink altogether. Ryan then proceeded and potted a great pink and then a pressure black to tie the match all square again.

Decider it was and Ryan was up for this and quickly opened up a 51-0 lead. Lee was up against it and never really got a chance, Ryan duly eased in the final frame 71-7 to take the title.

Congratulations to Ryan and thanks go to Alex Crum for officiating the match, also NSC for their excellent playing facilities once again.

01 Jun 2017**CONGRATULATIONS! - EXCELSIOR SC A - "CHAMPION of CHAMPIONS"**

After defeating Horsforth Cons (Winners Div F) 5 frames to 2, Excelsior SC 'A' (Winners Div B) are this season's "Champion of Champions".
With some 'big hitters' on both sides it was not surprising that the frames were locked 2-2 at the half-way point. But then the momentum swung and after Ryan Walton (-34) crucially won his first frame against Mark Ball (-42), it was left to Tommy Doherty (-21) to secure victory for the NSC based team, with important breaks in both his frames to win 2-0.
Thanks to Farsley Cons for staging the final and providing very good facilities. Referees were Mark King & Bob Patterson.

Dress code applies.

30 May 2017##Ryan Walton reaches Len Lee Invitation final##

Ryan Walton defeated Lewis Gillen 4-2 in the second semi-final of the Len Lee Invitation event.
Gillen started the stronger of the two, a 63 break giving him the first frame 80-0. Walton replied with a 31 break in the second and crucially fluked the pink to level matters at 1-1. Gillen then regained the lead with a 31 break of his own and looked the more likely winner but the pivotal point in the match came in the fourth frame when with two reds remaining, Walton laid a snooker which gleaned 26 points and helped him level again at 2-2. From that point on Walton slowly gained in confidence and he took the next two frames (70-56,74-23) for a 4-2 victory. He now plays Lee Atkinson in the final.
Thanks again to Mark King for officiating and to the NSC for hosting the match.
