It is with great sadness I have to annouce the death of our Vice-Chairman Rodney Sims, who passed away suddenley last night.
Further details will be shown and circulated once they become known to us - Bob
It is now nearly 3 years since delegates overwhelmingly passed a committee proposal to adopt a SLIGHT VARIATION to the "Foul & a Miss" rule, of the official ruling body the WPBSA.
THIS SLIGHT VARIATION STILL APPLIES, but judging by a few recent reports, one or two need reminding of what was agreed in December 2014 - a fuller version of the proposal can still be viewed on the above tab - "About Us / Documents".
In very brief terms here, there are 3 parts to the rule!
1. VERY THIN EDGE - "Clear Path" (i.e. NOT 'snookered') - this is MANDATORY & MUST BE CALLED A MISS, unless, but providing NOT intentional, snookers are required OR points available on the table are the same as the difference in the scores (excluding a re-spotted black), with regards to BOTH PLAYERS & BEFORE OR AFTER the stroke.
2. "CENTRAL FULL BALL CONTACT" - "Clear Path" (i.e. NOT 'snookered') but NOT both edges (as in a 'FREE BALL').
EXACTLY THE SAME APPLIES AS IN 1, except if a 'miss' happens TWICE in succession and the player is then WARNED, the player should lose the frame on the 3rd occasion of a 'miss'.
1 & 2 HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME & WERE NEVER AFFECTED BY THE LBSO VARIATION IN 2014.
3. WHEN 'SNOOKERED' - this is the ONLY part of the rule which was affected by the LBSO variation in 2014!
It was agreed 3 years ago, and ONLY in this situation, that a MISS would NOT be called, under ANY circumstances, and irrespective of the state of the scoreboard, where the player taking the stroke was 'SNOOKERED', UNLESS the miss was clearly INTENTIONAL!
FOR CLARITY, THIS WILL INCLUDE 'SWERVE SHOTS' (but ONLY when 'SNOOKERED')!
THIS STILL APPLIES TO ALL LEAGUE MATCHES & COMPETITIONS (where there is no official referee).
THE 2014 VARIATION ACHEIVED WHAT IT SET OUT TO DO THEN & THERE IS NO INTENTION TO CHANGE IT NOW!
IT HAS MADE THINGS FAR BETTER FOR THE MAJORITY!
A fuller version fit for club notice boards will be circulated to team captains in due course.
Anybody still not clear about anything please make contact with myself - Thanks Bob
