01 Oct 2017** HANDICAP REVIEW **

This weeks handicap review is now complete click on handicaps from the drop down menu to view.
New handicaps come into force from Monday 2nd October.

Some players are now into their second adjustment of the season to prevent these players handicaps going back to their first adjustment i try to find some "middle ground" to even out their handicaps so although in some cases the reccomended adjustment would take them back to their previous handicap i try to avoid this as we want players handicaps to remain as constant as possible.

27 Sep 2017**BALLS!! - WHITE CUE BALLS**

The issue of SMALL and /or LIGHT cue balls has once again been brought to our attention this season already!
Just like any other snooker rules on 'fouls' for instance, the WPBSA has rules about BALLS - reds, colours & the WHITE CUE BALL!
The WPBSA rules say, ALL balls should of the SAME DIAMETER (52.5mm / 2 & 1/16") & of EQUAL WEIGHT.
(There are in fact miniscule tolerances in both respects, but nothing which would be noticeable!).
The CUE BALL wears away naturally over time, given it travels further than any other in a set of balls, but not to the extent that you see some!
Weight is also an issue with some light cue balls, to such an extent you wonder where they have come from?
There are some slightly smaller 2" balls from smaller / 3/4 size tables knocking about!
POOL CUE BALLS!! - if there are any being used, are TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
CAN ALL CLUBS PLEASE CHECK THEIR CUE BALLS PARTICULARLY!
The LBSO does NOT expect teams to provide a new set of snooker balls every year, BUT THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING CUE BALLS OF THE CORRECT SIZE & WEIGHT.
Local suppliers stock 2 & 1/16" snooker cue balls for just over a tenner!
PLEASE CHECK & REPLACE IF NECESSARY!
Thanks on behalf of the Committee.

17 Sep 2017** SUBMITTNG SCORECARDS WITH LESS THAN 4 PLAYERS **

If you play against or if you have less than 4 players in your team do not enter a players name and do not award any frame scores to the non offending player.
You have an option to enter NO PLAYER when submitting results click on No Player and award the frame points to the non offending player. If players and frame scores are entered this has an adverse effect on players handicaps.

14 Sep 2017** RE-HANDICAPPING CRITERIA **

We are now into the second week of our new season i will be doing the first handicap review of the season over this weekend.
I will briefly outline how and why handicaps are adjusted.
If a player is on +/ -4 frames with an average win/loss frame score of +/- 25 there will be an adjustment this adjustment is dictated by the scoreline of the 4 frames won/lost and is a larger adjustment than if a player wins / loses 6 frames by a smaller margin. (This denotes the player is playing above/below their present handicap)
If a player wins/loses 6 frames an adjustment will be made which as stated earlier will be less than the above criteria if the player has won lost by a smaller margin.

If and when we come to the same player for a second or third adjustment to prevent them going up and down to their previous handicap i try to find some "middle ground" for their handicap the aim is to have players playing off a constant handicap.
As we progress through the season we usually find players settle into a stable handicap and hopefully prevent their handicaps going up and down repeatedly.

So to summerise if you win 4 frames by +/- 4 frames with a winning margin of +/- 25 you will be adjusted, if you win / lose 6 frames an adjustment will be made.
In all cases the adjustment is computer generated.

LBSO League Secretary.

10 Sep 2017##Barton and Hirst win Litetask Pairs##

A couple of "no shows" meant 32 pairs lined up for the inaugural "Litetask" Handicap Pairs competition kindly sponsored by Mark Pears of Barnbow Social.
The semi-finals saw Gary Barton and Stephen Hirst scrape through 2-1 against James Sykes and Mark McGreavy, whilst in the other semi Michael Gaughan and Paul Davey had a more comfortable victory over Tommy Doherty and Mark Loughlan 2-0.
The final then went the way of the Belle Isle duo by 2-0.
The Plate competition went down to the final black, Darren Binns and Jason Briggs edging home against Thomas Oates and Paul Turner.
League chairman Andy Taffinder added some last minute sponsorship which meant a high break prize was up for grabs throughout the day.
Gary Calter set the pace early on with a run of 53,which was then eclipsed by Damien Gale with a fine 72. However it was Richard Binns who sealed the £25 prize with a break of 80.
Many thanks to Mark and Andy for the sponsorship, the NSC for use of the excellent facilities, and to Mark King for officiating the finals.
All matches throughout the day were played in great spirit.
The next one day competition is scheduled for Sunday 19th November. Watch this space for further details.
