02 Jul 2017##Liam Barlow beats Dave Boyes to win inaugural ADT Flexibles One day comp ##

A full field of 64 players lined up for the inaugural ADT Flexibles One day comp, with the first matches getting underway shortly before 10am.
First casualty was Steve Broadhead (Edmund House -21) who was defeated 2-0 by Lee Atkinson (Main Line -26) in what was probably the "match of the round", Atkinson posting a break of 51 along the way.
Performance of the 1st round belonged to James Sykes (Morley Cons +9) who had a lifetime best break of 81 in his 2-0 defeat of Steve Gale.
Early pace setter was Adam Rennison (Harehills Labour +37) who breezed through to the semi-finals and looked a likely winner off what appeared to be a "generous" handicap, before meeting a determined Dave Boyes(Gildersome Cons -3). Their semi-final went down to the wire with Adam unluckily going in off the final black to give Dave a hard fought victory.
In the other semi, Liam Barlow (Excelsior +10) overcame Mark McGreavy (Morley Cons +15) 2-0 to set up an intriguing final.
In the final Liam won the first frame on the Blue before Dave hit back to make it 1-1.
Liam then jumped out to a 38-0 lead in the decider and with 2 reds left he led by 29 points. Liam eventually potting the last red, blue and yellow to make the frame safe, and Dave just couldn't get the snookers he needed on the colours to deny Liam a 2-1 victory.
Star of the Plate competition for 1st round losers was 11 year-old James Pears(Barnbow Social +40).
After battling his way to the semi-final, he looked to be on his way out to Steve Parlour (Harehills Labour +14) before a magnificent green to Pink clearance saw him through to the final where he faced Steve Gale (New Middleton +30) who defeated Malcolm Timblin (Leeds Anglers +44) in the other semi.
A close fought final again went down to the wire before James fluked the final black, much to the delight of his watching family and most of the neutrals in the crowd.
So all in all it was a good day.
Thanks to league chairman Andy Taffinder for the sponsorship, to the NSC for providing the facilities free of charge, and to Mark King for officiating.
