19 Apr 2014**3 MAN KO & WINDSOR TROPHY**

The last 8 draw for the 3 Man KO and the Preliminary round of the Windsor Trophy are both now showing on the LBSO website.
They are 'dove-tailed' to take place on the same day - this Wednesday 23rd April.
Quite a few people have mentioned about waiting for the Windsor to start having being knocked out of the 3 man event, so there is no need to wait any more.
However, of the 20 teams involved in the prelim for the Windsor Trophy, 2 teams are still involved in the 3 Man KO which takes precedence - they are East Leeds SC (away to LPSA), and Crossgates Rec (home to Beechwood).
THESE 2 MATCHES CANNOT TAKE PLACE THIS WEDNESDAY, BUT ALL OTHERS SHOULD!
The captains of both East Leeds & Crossgates will now endeavour to arrange their fixture in the Winsdor Trophy, at the convenience of themselves and their opponents as soon as possible after next Wednesday (or before if that is possible)?
If that proves to be the case, then the 1st round proper can take place on Wednesday 30th April, taking over from the 3 Man KO which will reach the semi-final stage.
If this proves NOT to be the case, then there will have to be a delay in drawing the 1st round proper by a week, as subsequent draws cannot be made until all the results are showing on the website.

16 Apr 2014**STAN BROOKE PAIRS FINAL**

FINAL - Thursday 17th April - between Gavin Griffin / Antony Bedford (Holbeck WMC) & Anthony Massey / Sam O'Brien (Harehills WMC). Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, the game had to be conceded to GAVIN GRIFFIN / ANTONY BEDFORD (Holbeck WMC).
The result of the game is recorded in accordance with the WPBSA rules covering aggregate competitions.
SEMI-FINAL MATCH REPORTS: Last night the Harehills pair beat Paul Grimes and Lee Grimes (Ackroyd St) 250 pts to 216 over 3 frames aggregate, and the night before the Holbeck duo beat father and son Martin & Charlie McGuigan (Bramley Band) by 244 pts to 159.
Report follows below-:
Last Monday night saw the first of the Stan Brooke pairs semi-final match between Gavin Griffin & Antony Bedford (from Holbeck off +25) and Martin & Charlie McGuigan (from Bramley Band off +22). The first frame was a typical scrappy affair with all players making contributions while getting used to the Northern S.C. match table. However, Gavin & Antony had gained a lead of 15 at this stage. The second frame saw the Holbeck pair step up a gear to take a fairly open game by a further 31 points which gave them an advantage of 46 points going into the last frame. This meant that the father & son pairing had to try and take the initiative in an attempt to make up the deficit. Charlie did get the highest break of the match in the final frame but further steady scoring and cagey safety by Gavin & Antony saw them home by 85 points in the end.

Frame scores:

Gavin & Antony: 72 – 87 - 85 (Total 244)

Martin & Charlie: 57 – 56 – 46 (Total 159)

Johnathan certainly finished in style to take the 2014 LCC singles title.

The 20 plus spectators certainly enjoyed the final frame.

12 Apr 2014*LEEDS CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS UI6'S & U18's - WEDS 9th APRIL*

THE FUTURE IN LEEDS IS CLEARLY VERY BRIGHT AFTER 2 FINALS PLAYED BY 4 CLASSY PLAYERS IN TRUELY GOOD SPIRIT!

UNDER 16's - ROBERT THOMPSON (15 yrs) 2 - CALLUM BERESFORD (13 yrs) 1.
In a best of 3 frame thriller, Robert was on the verge of losing 2-0 before he turned things around and claimed the title. Callum took control of a long, tight and tense first frame, which went one way and then the other, before a brilliant blue, pink and black clearance nicked it 59-53.
Callum then took early command of the 2nd frame, before Robert hit back. The frame then remained close until the final 3 colours made the difference just like the first. Unfortunately Callum could'nt repeat the heroics of the first frame, and after missing the blue, Robert potted it and the pink to take the 2nd frame 53-44.
Robert also then sealed a close and tense final frame, holding his nerve to pot the pink and take the title.
A GREAT GAME - CREDIT GOES TO BOTH PLAYERS!

UNDER 18's - OLIVER MULCHAY (15 yrs) 3 - LIAM BARLOW (16 yrs) 1.
After taking the first 2 frames fairly easily (1. 79-11 & 2. 57-29), when Oliver quickly got into his stride and Liam could'nt seem to find his form, the tide them seemed to be turning after Liam took the 3rd frame (56-24) and then took contol in the 4th.
However, 26 behind, Oliver came to the table and then found a new lease of life, to produce a fantastic and very classy 55 break which turned out to be crucial in the end. Oliver looked like he was going to clear the table on his 55 break, but when he got another opportunity to mop up the colours, he made no mistake.
WELL DONE OLIVER - HARD LUCK LIAM - ANOTHER GREAT MATCH!

12 Apr 2014*LEEDS CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS PAIRS FINAL - TUES 8th APRIL*

Congratulations go to Johnathan Bagley & Oliver Lines who defeated Paul Goodall & Michael Savery by 3 frames to 1 in the best of 5 final.
The champions took the first frame 84-16 at a stroll, with 2 forty plus breaks 1 from each of them.
The second frame was over even quicker, after Oliver made a superb 93 break and the only reason it wasn't more is because he run out of balls! (Frame score 117-11).
The match looked over and done with in frame 3, when Paul came to the table 38 behind, but a gritty 34 break followed by a crucial final red, blue and the first two colours put the underdogs in front. Then after potting the brown Oliver surprisingly missed an easy blue for him, leaving Michael to mop up the pink & black to take the 3rd frame 65-51.
With the prospect of an upset on the cards then, Oliver & Johnathan once again gained control and took the 4th frame and the title 59-10.

08 Apr 2014*LEEDS CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM FINAL - MON 7th APRIL*

NORTHERN SC 'A' 4 - NORTHERN SC 'B' 1
Last night Monday 7th April saw the final of the team competition which involved Northern Snooker Centre (A) versus the Northern Snooker Centre (B)
First board men Richard Binns (B Team) v Howard Brazil (A) played out a tactical first frame with both players potting well and both missing chances to take control of the frame. Howard had first chance to clinch the frame on the blue but failed with Richard stepping in to take the blue and pink and seal the frame.
Next on was James Pearson (B) v Oliver Lines (A) with James starting well with a 28 break but oliver hit back with breaks of 48 and 28 to take frame two and level the scores.
In a scrappy third frame with both Chris Hart (B) and Jonathan Bagley (A) failing to take early chances it came down to the colours with Jonathan potting the important colours to take frame three and a two one lead.
Howard and Richard returned to the table for their second frame with Howard potting good reds and colours to take a lead going in to the last six colours when a fluked blue sealed the frame for Howard and a crucial three one lead leaving the B team with a tough task to win the title.
Oliver and James played out what was to be the final frame which after a good bout of safety by both players saw Oliver take his chance with a good 40 break only to miss a red to the centre pocket which gave James chance to get back into the frame. But it was Oliver who sealed victory with a 39 clearance to the pink,
Well done to both teams for an entertaining evening of snooker played out on the tough centre board.
