15 May 2014**CONGRATULATIONS KRIS CHAPMAN - 2014 STAN BROOKE SINGLES CHAMPION**Kris Chapman +19 hcp. (Crossgates Rec. Hall) is the 2014 Stan Brooke Singles Champion after beating Rob Johnson +34 hcp. (Bramley Villagers), by 249 points to 214 on Thursday night - 15th May.
To prove the value of scoring points in an aggregate format, Rob actually won 2 of the 3 frames but lost overall.
Kris started like a 'house on fire' and reeled the first frame off fairly easily 91-20 after a cagey start by both.
Rob then rallied in the second and the momentum started to swing back to him with a 'miss rule' situation, so much so, that if Rob had not gone in off the final pink, the points would have been more or less level with handicaps added going into the final 3rd frame.
As it turned out, Kris made 2 good pots on the final pink and black to take a 51 point lead into the final frame, even though Rob won the 2nd frame 76-56.
Even then, Rob was not going anywhere and he continued to make things difficult for Kris, and then when he put his best break of the night together he could still have taken the title.
However, his courageous fight came to an end when he missed the final brown, Kris then took it with a good pot and the blue and pink as well, and the rest is history as they say, even though Rob still won the 3rd frame - 61-45.
WELL DONE KRIS HARD LUCK ROB!
Semi- Final match reports below:
Monday 12th May Kris Chapman v Gareth Naylor report by Peter Walker.
Last Monday saw the first Stan Brooke singles semi-final held at the Northern Snooker Centre on the centre table. It was contested between Kris (a.k.a. Jack) Chapman (+19 based at Crossgates Rec) and Gareth Naylor (+39 from Peggy Tub). The opening frame saw Jack quickly into his stride which he dominated while Gareth was still getting used to the playing conditions. He won the initial frame and gained a very handy lead of 39 going into the second of three frames based on total aggregate. Although in the next frame Jack began with another early break, it was a much closer frame with Gareth battling back which included 8 foul and misses between them which seemed a little harsh. The conclusion of this frame resulted in Jack gaining 1 extra point to his existing lead. In the last frame, Jack slowly managed to overhaul Gareth’s 20 point handicap start and eventually took control, winning the last frame by a further 13 points with only pink and black remaining. Hard lines to Gareth and good luck to Jack in the final on Thursday. Frames scores were as follows, KC: 108(27)-GN: 69, 85-84, 85-72 (Total scores 278-225).
Tuesday 13th May - Rob Johnson v Mark Aspin - report by Andy Taffinder.
Frame 1 Rob Johnson to break
Both players found the no 1 board at NSC very difficult.
Rob Johnson edged it 69 - 56 taking a 13 point aggregate.
Frame 2 Mark Aspin to break
Once again both players found the table difficult.
Rob Johnson managed to get a 50 point lead up until the Brown.
Mark managed to clear the last balls with a 22 break reducing the aggregate
on frame 2 to 28.
Frame score 87 - 59 to Rob Johnson.
Frame 3 Rob Johnson to break
Mark went into the frame with a negative 41 aggregate plus the 17 start from
the handicaps totalling a massive 58 points in arrears.
This didn't phase Mark as he came back very strong and brought the
deficitate down to less than 20 points overall and if the balls had run a
'little kinder' for him, the end could have been very different.
However Rob strung a good 27 points in two visit's to the table which
finally put the game and match beond Mark.
Final frame score 74 - 73 to Mark.

Congratulations to Upper & Lower Wortley Libs on winning a close final beating Queenswood Social by 4 frames to 2.
The trophy could have gone to either team with all except 1 frame going to a black ball decider.
The first 2 frames were shared with Lee Craven U & l beating Steve Raine Qwood and Shaun Hill Qwood beating the veteran Peter Brier U& L. Next on saw Darren Barlow U & L beat Mark Gooch on the final black while Shaun Hill completed a 2/0 victory over Peter. After being the bearer of bad news recently, it is our pleasue to now deliver some good news to you!
18 year old OLIVER LINES of the Northern Snooker Centre, in March this year playing in Bucharest Romania, added the EUROPEAN U.21 SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP to his already long list of Leeds, Yorkshire and English tiltle wins.
Oliver defeated Josh Boileau of the Republic of Ireland 6-1 in the final, to join a list of past winners including Luca Brecel, Ben Woollaston & Mark Allen.
SANDERSON LAM, also of the Northern SC, reached the 1/4 final before losing 5-3 to Ashley Carty.
(See the EBSA website for further details).
OLIVER's WIN now guarantees him a minimum of 2 years on the Pro-circuit, and father Peter Lines (currently ranked in the world 57), is trying to find out if this will be the first time father and son have actually played on the Pro-tour at the same time? The only ones we think who come near are Geoff & Neil Foulds, but did they play at the same time?
However, before he leaves the amateur ranks soon, Oliver still has the chance to win the prestigiuos English Amateur Championship, having already reached the Northern final. The final stages of the English Amateur Championship will be played at the Northern Snooker Centre in early June.
GOOD LUCK OLIVER FROM ALL AT THE LBSO NOW FOR THE AMATEUR & WHEN YOU TURN PRO!!!

WINDSOR TROPHY - see seperate instructions above.
Garforth WMC, this season's Division F Champions, last night regained the trophy they won last year, by beating double Division A winners New Wortley Labour by 5 frames to 3.
New Wortley started confidently and things were looking bleak for Garforth when the first 2 frames went to the Division A Champions for the past 2 seasons. However, the 'tide started to turn' when Dave Goodall recovered from a 40 point deficit to win his second frame, and Garforth soon rattled off the next 2 frames as well to lead 3 to 2.
Lewis Gillen then quickly levelled the match with an emphatic second frame against Bogart Barrow, after losing the first when a miss call did not go in his favour.
It was then left to the two No 1's on the night to battle out the final 2 frames, and giving 27 points start to an in form and very solid Lee Brookes just proved to much for John Gillen on the night.
Frames Scores in 4-3-2-1 order (Garforth first): A. Brookes (+37) 67, 82 v Dave McCormack (+21) 97, 51: D. Goodall (+2) 15, 61 v N. Mortimer (+10) 83, 47: B. Barrow (-4) 60, 23 v Lewis Gillen (-4) 51, 67: L. Brookes (-11) 77, 85 v John Gillen (-38) 40, 0.
THANKS TO HAREHILLS LABOUR CLUB FOR STAGING THE FINALS & THOSE WHO BRUSHED & IRONED THE TABLES ON THE 3 NIGHTS.
