06 Jun 2024""Bramley WMC's Robert Kennally is Veterans Champion**The Veterans competition seems to grow in popularity each year and this year a record 36 entries battled it out at the NSC for the title of "Golden Oldie".
In the top half of the draw Garforth WMC's David Horry (27) won 5 matches to reach the final. In the bottom half it was Robert Kennally (38) who prevailed winning several close matches along the way.
The final itself was a high scoring affair, the "foul and a miss" rule coming to the fore with both players giving away several penalty points. When Kennally potted the blue, Horry needed a snooker and when Horry inadvertently potted the pink it was all over. The frame score was an impressive 107-97!
High break in the main competition was a 35 by Ian Sharp in the first round.
The plate competition was won by Gildersome's Dave Boyes who beat Morley's Paul Grimes in the final. Boyes had the days high break of 58 in the semi-final.
Many thanks to our sponsors the Northern Snooker Centre and to Peter Connell who kindly refereed the final.

Garforth WMC defeated Hunslet Carr Sports and Social 5-1 in last nights Champion of Champions final.
First up at no4 Hunslet's Ben Abel (28) drew 1-1 with Don Lynch (32) 85-73,75-104, whilst on the adjoining table Jamie Manojlovic (20) was up against Garforth's Kristian Walder(30). Both games went down to the Black and it was the Garforth player who took them both 64-72, 96-97, to put his team 3-1 up at the half way stage.
At no2 it was Hunslet's Gavin Binns (16) against David Elmy(1). The Garforth player was in top form and with balls flying into pockets from all angles a comfortable 23-68 victory ensued putting Garforth into a commanding 4-1 lead. Meanwhile on the other table the match between Daniel Waite (-9) and Garforth's Lee Brookes (-19) was a lot closer, but when Brookes doubled the Pink for victory (42-57) the match was over and Garforth had won 5-1.
Thanks to Bob Paterson and Paul Marlow for officiating and to Farsley Cons for hosting the match.
Belle Isle's Richard Binns defeated Farsley's Mark Ball 4-2 last night to take the Len Lee Invitation trophy.
The first 3 frames were scrappy, Binns taking the first (56-34) before some excellent safety play enabled Ball to take the next 2 (17-64,50-65).
In the fourth frame Binns levelled courtesy of a 48 break (63-27) and from that point it was one way traffic as breaks of 64 and 62 enabled him to take the last 2 frames (86-18, 81-15) and the match 4-2.
Thanks as usual to our hosts and sponsors the Northern Snooker Centre.
The final of the 3 Man KO between Moor Allerton Sports & Social and Gildersome Cons, will take place on Wednesday 5th June at South Leeds Conservative Club
19.45 start, dress code applies
The duo from Rowland Road claimed the Len Lee Pairs title with ease against the Father/Son Boyes duo from Gildersome Cons.
What is traditionally a long night of snooker was the complete opposite with the match done and dusted in just over an hour.
Giving away a 28pt start for each frame neither Dave or Daniel could get going in any of the 3 frames. All 3 frames won with relatively ease which was helped with some good potting from Millward and then in particular Oates with the best break of 32 compiled in the last frame of the night.
Scores:
34 - 85
3 - 86
9 - 89
Thanks to NSC for hosting the final. Paul Marlow for marking and to Mark Ball for officiating to such a high standard!

Beechwood WMC pairing Dave Scarlett and Gary Smith (22) defeated Denison Hall's Tommy and Jimmy Doherty (9) 226-192 in tonight's Stan Brooke Pairs final.
The Doherty's started the first frame well and had scored 40 points before their opponents had potted a ball but the Beechwood duo hit back and when Scarlett potted the final Black they had gone down by just 9 points 73-82. The second frame was another close one, Scarlett/Smith winning by 2 points (59-57) so the deficit was just 7 going into the final frame. With one red remaining, Scarlett/Smith led by 28 (21 on aggregate) and when Dave Scarlett potted the last red, followed by Black, Yellow, Green and Brown the match was effectively over.
Many thanks to referee Andy Kitson and our sponsors the Northern Snooker Centre.
