Dave Sutcliffe of Harehills WMC eased past Steve Gale from New Middleton to seal his Stan Brooke Singles final spot.

The first frame wasn’t anything to write home about in a scrappy, slow and low scoring frame. Sutcliffe receiving 17pts start per frame never really came to terms with the table speed and challenging pockets. Gale too found the table difficult and lost position on many occasions. It was Sutcliffe that finished the lengthy frame the brightest and took it 69 – 48

Second frame started and it was like watching two different players to the previous frame. Sutcliffe started well with some early pots, then compiling a good 20 break to open up a good lead. Now it was Gale to show what he can do and he stepped up to the task contributing a fantastic 30 break of his own to narrow the deficit. Sutcliffe then potted some great colours to edge further ahead, but Gale potted the remaining Pink and Black to reduce the score-line. 83 – 64

With a 40 point advantage plus his 17pt start it was Sutcliffe with the big advantage going into the last decisive frame. Gale started the strongest add a 15 break to his scoreboard, but Sutcliffe came back with a quick flurry of pots to maintain his advantage. Gale had several chances that he could take and it was Sutcliffe then to put a 14 break together to put the match beyond the reach of Gale and seal his final spot.

Sunday July 1st sees the 2nd Annual "ADT Flexbles Ltd" sponsored one day handicap.
Open to LBSO registered players only, matches will be best of 3 with a 1 frame plate competition for 1st round losers.

Entry is £5, payable on the day with no pre-registration required. Just turn up and play-entries close at 10am.

Sunday 15th July is the LBSO sponsored 6 Reds Handicap (played on half normal handicap).
Open to LBSO registered players only, matches will be best of 5 with a best of 3 plate competition for 1st round losers.

Entry fee is £5 No pre-registration required, just turn up by 10am ready to play.

Pete Brier and Mark Smith of Upper and Lower Wortley Libs defeated Paul Galbraith and Dean Pattison of Belle Isle WMC tonight to reach the Stan Brooke Pairs final.
A combination of the occasion and the notorious NSC match table meant this was a low scoring affair with all four players struggling to pot more than a couple of balls in succession.
Receiving 13 start per frame, Brier and Smith took the first game 68-35.
The second frame was tied at 36 all before the Belle Isle pair crucially potted the last two colours to win the game 49-36 and reduce the overall arrears to just 20 points heading into the final frame.
Another low scoring game ensued, but the Belle Isle pair just couldn't get their noses in front, and they ended up losing the frame 60-21 leaving the overall score 164-105 to the Wortley duo.

This year's Veterans (over 50's) competition will take place next Tuesday (5th June) at the NSC commencing at 11am. There will be a one frame handicap competition with a one frame "plate" competition for first round losers.

Entry is free with complimentary tea/bacon sandwich.

A small field of 10 pairs battled it out today at the NSC for the privilege of being called "Leeds Pairs Champions".
The preliminary round saw Oliver Mulcahy have breaks of 57 and 44 as he and partner Danny Magee defeated father and son pairing Isa and Mohammed Ishtiaq 3-1. In the other preliminary tie, Tom Doherty and Ryan Walton beat LPSA duo Andy Dilucia and Darren Tate 3-1.
The quarter finals saw Doherty(58 break) and Walton defeat Mulcahy and Magee 3-1.
Scott Raper and Tony Massey beat Michael Gaughan and Richard Binns 3-1, Mark Ball (56 break) and Mick Jensen defeated Lewis Harper and Gavin Godfrey 3-0, and in a marathon close fought match, Chris Hart and Stephen Broadhead finally overcame Steve Parlour and Danny Dean 3-2.
The first semi-final turned out to be a fairly one sided affair, Scott Raper doing most of the damage as he and Tony Massey whitewashed Doherty and Walton 3-0.
The other semi was altogether closer as Hart and Broadhead ground out a 3-2 victory over Ball and Jensen by 3 frames to 2.
The final looked to be going the way of Raper and Massey as they forged into a 2-0 lead, winning the first frame on the black (66-52) and the second more comfortably (61-27).
Hart and Broadhead fought back in the next winning (76-33), and looked to be heading for 2-2 before a magnificent clearance from the last 2 reds by Scott Raper saw he and his partner clinch the match on the pink.
