07 Jan 2019##Leeds Singles now open for entry##

The Leeds Snooker Singles championship is now open for entry. Qualifying days are Sunday Feb 10th and Sunday Feb 24th.

When entering please state if you are unable to play on either of the dates.

Entry is free.

Players must be registered with the LBSO and must reside in the Leeds area unless they have played at least one league match.

Closing date for entry is Sunday 3rd February.

06 Jan 2019##Young Stanley comes of age as charity comp raises £450 for Anthony Nolan##

NSC junior academy member 12 years old Stanley Moody finally fulfilled his promise as he took the first prize of £120 and in addition earned himself a visit from the handicappers. A regular in these events Stanley had never previously reached the money stages but a number of close fought victories and several black ball wins finally saw him break his duck.
A magnificent entry of 73 players started out at 9:30, and it was Barnbow regular Shannon Metcalf who set the early pace, defeating Joe Moore, Kamran Mann, Danny Dean and Mark Ball on her way to the quarter final, Ball having previously had a fine win over another NSC academy rising star Liam Pullen.
Meanwhile Stan Moody scraped through his first match 2-1 against Adam Rennison before beating Dean Paterson 2-0 and then another 2-1 tussle against Barnbow's James Pears. James's dad Mark also reached the quarter final stage with wins over Oliver Mulcahy, Paul Turner and Dave Boyes. Last quarter finalist in the top half of the draw was U&L Wortley's Danny Gill, overcoming Craig Smith, Phil Buckle and Daniel Boyes along the way.
In the lower half of the draw Beechwood's Billy Savage beat Wayne Ramsden, Chris Freeman and Ryan Walton on his way to a quarter final place against New Headingley's Sam McElhinney who had despatched Scott Raper ,Andrew Houlker and Tommy Doherty. Raper having the days high break of 97 in his 2-1 defeat.
Belle Isle's Steve Hirst continued his fine form in these events by fighting his way past John Howlett, Steve Quigley and Isa Ishtiaq to reach the last quarter final where he faced another Sunday regular Steve Parlour who overcame Jason Hudson,Gary Barton and Mick Jensen.
In the quarter finals Stanley Moody defeated Shannon Metcalf, Danny Gill beat Mark Pears, Sam McElhinney won through against Billy Savage and Steve Parlour defeated Steve Hirst.
In the first semi final Stanley found himself 22 behind on the brown before an excellent clearance followed by a long pot on the re-spotted black saw him 1-0 up against Danny Gill. The second frame was just as close, Stan finally sinking the pink for a 2-0 win. In the other semi Sam McElhinney came from 1-0 down to beat Steve Parlour 2-1 and reach the final.
True to form the first frame of the final was won on the black by Stanley who then won a close second frame to take the title 2-0.
In the plate, Edmund House's Stephen Broadhead beat Graham Bellwood in the semi before winning first prize by beating Barnbow's John Howlett in the final. John having earlier beaten Richard Binns in his semi.

So a massive thank you to all who took part, and to the NSC for use of the facilties and to Peradon for their kind donation to the prize fund. Real winners on the day were the Anthony Nolan Cancer Charity.

As this competition is in aid of the Anthony Nolan Cancer Charity I have decided to extend the number of entries past the normal 64 cut off. We currently have 71 entries.
To ensure the competition finishes at a reasonable time, some matches will commence at 9:30. Players involved in these matches have been informed. Unless you have been asked to do otherwise please be on-site for 10am. If you have entered but have to withdraw please let me know by text asap so I can amend the draw.

Thanks to all who have entered. We now have a full contingent of 64 entrants.Sponsorship has been boosted by Peradon who have kindly donated some snooker accessories which will be added to the prize fund. See you all on Sunday........

The handicap review for fixtures from 19/20th December will be completed over the festive period all captains will be sent a reminder once done.

21 Dec 2018**JOHN HARRIMAN - RIP**

It is with regret we have to inform you of the sad recent passing of John Harriman.
John was a lovely fella and a player in the league for many many years, predominantly at snooker and mainly for teams in the NE Leeds area, last registered with Swarcliffe.
Sincere respect and thoughts at this time in remembrance of John.
