17 May 2017Binns/Reynolds reach Len Lee Pairs Final......

Darren Binns and Steve Reynolds last night defeated Jake Bell and Kurtis Walker 3-2 to go through to next weeks final. With Binns and Bell both struggling to find any form, it was left to their respective partners to do most of the scoring, and it was Steve Reynolds who held his nerve to play most of the key shots which enabled the Middleton pair to win the deciding frame 76-31.
Thanks to Bob Patterson for refereeing and to the NSC for the excellent facilities.

15 May 2017Julian Keegan claims Stan Brooke Singles title in black ball thriller....

The first two and a half frames of the Stan Brooke Singles Final were largely uneventful. Receiving 25 points per frame from John Rea, Julian Keegan edged a nervy opening game by 9 points, and with both players struggling to come to terms with the occasion,he extended his lead to 37 points by the end of the second game. Early in the third frame Keegan led by 45 points (82 on aggregate) and seemed to be cruising to victory. With 2 reds left the lead was down to 55 points, but Rea still needed 3 snookers to tie and it looked like the title was heading to the Gildersome player. However, that's when everything started to go "Pete Tong".
A couple of loose shots from Keegan gave Rea a glimmer of hope and when Keegan struggled to hit a couple of well laid snookers the game changed dramatically.
Amazingly with 3 balls remaining Rea had forged a 42 point lead (5 points on aggregate) and looked favourite to complete an astonishing comeback. However a loose shot on the blue allowed Keegan in and he potted blue and pink to set up a black ball finish. A couple of shots later and Rea left the black in the jaws of the top pocket for the simplest of tap ins for a mightily relieved Keegan.
The match was played in great spirit throughout. Many thanks to referee Bob Patterson and the NSC for staging the final.

14 May 2017**Lee Atkinson sneaks into Len Lee Final**

Following a 4-3 win over Jason Braithwaite from Hawksworth Conservative Club.

First frame started brightly containing a well orchestrated 34 break by Jason to take the first frame 62-26

Lee took the next on the pink to level the match 1-1. The next 4 frames were shared in a very scrappy affair which led to the decider for a place in the final.

Colours were tied up early in the frame which didn't help either player. It came down to the final colours and Jason had the chance to secure the frame but lost position on the brown which let in Lee to pot Brown, a fantastic long Blue and then a pressure Pink to win the match 4-3.

Congratulations to Lee and now awaits the winner of Lewis Gillen v Ryan Walton which is to be played on Tuesday 30th May.

Thanks to Mark King for officiating and of course a big thanks to The Northern Snooker Centre for hosting the match.

10 May 2017Congratulations to John Rea

Who last night defeated Michael Gaughan in a close fought Stan Brooke singles contest which swung first one way then the other but which was played in great spirit throughout.
Conceding 16 points per frame it was Michael who struck first. A 25 break on his first visit to the table helped him amass a 21 point lead after frame one. John hit back in the second frame, winning by 6 to cut the deficit to 15 points going into the third and final frame. A 22 break then helped John to build up a 30 point lead overall before Michael responded well, and with 3 balls left on the table Michael had a 10 point advantage. A missed blue then proved costly as John stepped up and nervlessly potted blue pink and black to win by a slender 8 points 192-184.
John now plays Julian Keegan in next weeks final.
Thanks to Alex Crum and the NSC for officiating and hosting the match.

08 May 2017** STAN BROOKE SINGLES SEMI FINAL **

The first Stan Brooke semi final was won by Julian Keegan who defeated Daniel Grimes 262 points to 210.
In a match which saw both players struggle on the ultra fast centre table it was Julian who took a 20 point lead into the 2nd frame with neither players managing to get on top of the playing conditions.
The second frame gave Julian another 19 points victory to go into the final frame with a 39 point advantage which Daniel found it was too bigger hurdle conceding the frame and match on the blue after trying to get the snookers required.
Thanks to Mark King for officiating and of course a big thanks to The Northern Snooker Centre for hosting the match.

08 May 2017**Gale/Dean (Harehills) ease into Stan Brooke Pairs Final**

They overcame the resilience of Savery/Goodhall (New Headingley) in the semi final at NSC. Damian and Danny receiving 11 start per frame were in the ascendance after the first helped with a great clearance on the colours from Damian of Harehills to build a 71 point advantage.

Frame 2 saw the headingley boys claw back 10, and were always chasing in the 3rd frame and eventually conceding with the colours remaining. the final score was 215 - 129 in favour of the Harehills pair.

They now play Steven Hirst/Scott Fell from Belle Isle on Tuesday 23rd May
