Last night at Horsforth Cons, Div F Champions GILDERSOME CONS C defeated Div B Champions BELLE ISLE WMC B, to claim the first competition title of the 2017-18 season.
The '38 point average handicap difference per frame', proved too much on the night for Belle Isle to claw back.
Gildersome first - Up first Stu Matthews (+51) shared his 2 frames with Scott Fell (+24) - 93-84 & 66-99, but Chris Day (+49) was never really threatened by out of sorts Tony Fell (+20), winning both his frames - 96-49 & 90-46.
After a short break, it looked like Belle Isle were making a fight of it, after Josh Marsden (+43) lost his first frame to Steven Hirst (+4) - 52-82.
It still looked good for Belle Isle in the next 2 frames also, until Steve Styles (+14) finally won his frame against Richard Binns (-43) - 93-63, after Richard missed his chance to clear, and then within minutes, Steven Hirst wobbled the final pink, which allowed Josh Marsden to double it, and secure the frame - 77-60 - and the title with a big cheer from his team mates.
Thanks to Mark Ball, Mick Jensen and all at Horsforth Cons for providing a superb playing facility and the very well received interval food.
Thanks also to referees Alex Crum & Bob Patterson for officiating.
